Stabat Mater is both the Sequence for Our Lady of Sorrows and is used for Stations of the Cross. Pergolesi, the composer of the music, was commissioned by a wealthy family in Naples, Italy for a Good Friday Stations of the Cross. This duet paints the feeling of each station in such a way that you can relate Mary in her grief as she watches each station.
